Raquel López Mejías

Dr. López Mejías gained her biology degree in 2000 from Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain. She performed a training in immunology at Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid, Spain during the period 2004-2008. She obtained her Philosophical Doctoral degree in 2009 at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain, based on genetic markers associated with IgA immunoglobulin defficiency.


Dr López-Mejias is currently working at the Epidemiology, Genetics and Atherosclerosis Research Group on Systemic Inflammatory Diseases, Rheumatology Division, IDIVAL, Santander, Spain. She was awarded a Sara Borrel fellowship supported by Instituto de Salud Carlos III – Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria in 2013.


She has done research in epidemiology and genetics of autoimmune diseases. Dr López-Mejias collaborates in Spanish projects supported by Instituto de Salud Carlos III – Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria – to study genetic markers associated with cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis and also genetic markers associated with Henoch-Schöenlein Purpura.


She has published 45 articles included in PubMed, being the first author in 14 of them.
