Description of unit/research group

Research group IQ healthcare Radboud University and department of
Rheumatology, Bernhoven, The Netherlands.

This clinical research group has a track record in the assessment of inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The Disease Activity Score was developed here, and is used world-wide for the assessment of inflammatory activity in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
Our research is directed at refinement of prognostic predictions, ‘tight control’ strategies for tailored treatment algorithms in rheumatoid arthritis, and understanding patient and physician decision making processes. Major extra-articular consequences of RA are fatigue and cardiovascular disease, in both we perform research aimed at personalized treatment. Prediction of cardiovascular risk and appropriate treatment of cardiovascular risk currently are the main topics of research regarding rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular disease. In the past 5 years we are also performing studies to improve self management of patients with RA, evaluate the use of eHealth platforms and interventions to increase physical activity in patients with rheumatic diseases.
