Ms. Crowson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Winona State University in 1989. She also earned a Master of Science in Statistics from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in 2005.
Ms. Crowson has been working at Mayo Clinic in the Department of Health Sciences Research for 25 years as a biostatistician. She has accumulated >160 peer-reviewed, scientific publications [H-index=50]. Much of her career has been devoted to statistical analyses in the area of rheumatology, and since 2006 she has been the sole statistician for the Division of Rheumatology, where each year she contributes to 25-30 abstracts/presentations/posters and 20-25 published papers. As a statistician collaborating with rheumatologists, her interests reflect both medical and statistical areas.Ms. Crowson’s research has focused on the epidemiology of rheumatic diseases, with a special interest in rheumatoid arthritis and particularly the associated cardiovascular disease risk in person with rheumatoid arthritis. She was also extensively involved as the sole statistical collaborator in an international consortium of polymyalgia rheumatica. Her efforts were instrumental in developing classification criteria which were provisionally adopted by the American College of Rheumatology and the European League Against Rheumatism.
Ms. Crowson’s statistical interests focus on methods used in population-based research, such as estimating lifetime risk and accelerated aging, estimating attributable risk in longitudinal cohort studies, and Poisson regression models. Other areas of interest include risk prediction models, calibration methods and survival analysis.
